My interest in art and animals is lifelong – I’ve been drawing since I could hold a pencil and my main subject have always been animals: from the tiniest insects to elephants but with a particular fondness for my pets, with all their very humanlike aspects.
I have busy hands always looking for an outlet and a predispostion to learn new techniques that I satisfy with copying beautiful paintings, walking in the footseteps as best I can. The animals and the copying cam together when i developed a sensitivity to solvents and had to give up my beloved oils and switch to acrylic paints. At first the fast drying time was disconcerting, until I realized I could try out underpainting and glazing, a rich look that I don’t have the patience for with oils. A year watching paint dry! I picked some favorite portraits, substituted my cats and gave it a go. (I didn’t want strange people on my walls, just their pretty clothes and jewels) I loved the results and have been engaged in “the game” ever since.
I live with my artist husband, Bob, who helps with all the technical / computer parts of my life that I can’t handle but can’t do witout, and a variety of cats and dogs that have a special place in our hearts and in my paintings.
